EDF Luminus and the EDF Foundation exhibit work by Tomi Ungerer in the PASS centre throughout the summer

Wednesday, June 24, 2015 — As project partners of Mons 2015, EDF Luminus and the EDF Foundation open the exhibition "Tomi Ungerer, My Energy" in the PASS centre in Frameries on Wednesday 24 June 2015. A playful way to rediscover energy, with plenty of humour and irony.

Tomi Ungerer, an Alsatian artist who has gained worldwide recognition, is strongly inspired by the topic of energy in general and electricity in particular. With plenty of humour and humanity, he gives his view on the use of this energy source in our everyday lives. He often sketches comical situations, sometimes rebellious domestic appliances, a poetic image of electricity lines ... The artist always places energy close to man and at the service of the environment. Thérèse Willer, Curator of Musée Tomi Ungerer in Strasbourg: “The artist has created a few exuberant variations on the theme and depicts figures with electric wires coming out of the most unexpected parts of their body and plugged into sockets, or trapped in giant light bulbs.”

This exhibition, organised by EDF Luminus in close collaboration with PASS, the EDF Foundation and Musée de Strasbourg, is the flagship event for EDF Luminus within the scope of the partnership with the city of Mons, and is part of the official programme of Mons 2015, European Capital of Culture, throughout the summer.

Some sixty works will be displayed. The exhibited drawings belong to a collection of about a hundred drawings, sketches, studies and designs created by the artist for advertising campaigns and specific events.

The PASS centre is a logical choice as the location of this exhibition, since this former mining site bears witness to a long industrial past in which energy has played an important part. Grégoire Dallemagne, CEO of EDF Luminus: “This mining site has undergone a real metamorphosis and has been converted into a place for education and innovation. EDF Luminus is also undergoing a radical transformation: the company aims to develop from a mere energy supplier and producer into a fully-fledged energy partner.”
